Design for Manufacturability Service

2D & 3D Drawing Review and Feasibility Evaluation

We explore dimensions, GD&T tolerances, small holes, narrow slots, and interference issues. During the stamped part requirements review, our engineers determine potential spring-back and burr issues. We advise on appropriate material based on geometry, performance, formability, and production conditions.

Stamping Process Optimization

We sequence blanking, bending, deep-drawing, flanging, rib pressing, and notching efficiently overall. Blank allowances and corner radii are optimized to minimize cracking, wrinkling, and spring-back. We optimize strip layout to maximize material utilization, minimize consumption, and reduce manufacturing cost.

Mold-Oriented DFM Optimization

Before manufacturing, punch-die clearance, stripper arrangements, guiding construction, and die-design considerations are evaluated. Workpiece structures can be re-designed to facilitate simpler die structures, fewer inserts, and consistent production performance. These enhancements decrease die abrasion, prolong mould lifespan, and cut down on frequent mould reworking requirements.

Tolerance Rationalization Service

We differentiate between assembly-critical tolerances and unnecessarily tight tolerances that have little value during the manufacturing process. Where performance is protected, we take out unnecessary tolerances to make manufacturing easier and to give flexibility. This helps to lower costs, control the amount of scraps and keep the dimensional performance consistent throughout the production process.

Optimization for Edges, Burrs and Surface Finish

We increase the radii of corners and the detail of the forming to minimize the tear and enhance the edge quality. Blanking direction, deburring, flattening, and chamfering processes are planned based on the component requirements. Structures for plating, passivation, coating, and subsequent surface-treatment processes are adapted as necessary.

Mass-Production Feasibility Analysis

We suggest progressive or compound dies based on the order volumes, from prototypes to production. Production cycles, the need for production capacity, the losses of consumables, manufacturing constraints, etc., are evaluated prior to scaling. Our review is able to identify hidden quality-stability risks early on, so that predictability and controlled mass production can be ensured.

Assembly-Oriented Structural Optimization

We polish snaps, locating grooves, and guide features for accurate positioning for assembly. Good alignment makes it easy to handle, improves repeatability, and reduces any unnecessary adjustment work during assembly. The changes result in reduced assembly labour hours and ensure fit and reliable component performance.

Cost-Reduction Consulting

In practice, we do the following: simplify complicated features and merge disassembled stamped parts into a whole. Consolidation of design can minimize machining, welding, riveting, and other working steps after stamping. Our engineers make sure that opportunities are considered with regard to function, manufacturability, quality requirements, and efficiency before changes are recommended.

DFM Report Submission

Official DFM assessment papers are available for risk checklists, structural modifications, and processes. Feasibility results, suggested improvements, process descriptions, and estimated sampling cycles are reported for review. This documentation provides Precisionstampingltd.com customers with design references for design decisions, planning, and approval.

FAQs

What precision stamping products are the main products your factory produces? What industries do you serve?

We are experts in metal stamping, deep drawing, bending and formed parts with high precision for a wide range of applications. Our extensive product line consists of metal terminals, connector pins, wire harness terminals, gold-plated terminals, contact pads, brass plugs, sockets, copper busbars, silver contacts and lead frames. Precision spring clips, conductive springs, spring contacts, crown springs, electromagnetic shielding covers, heat sinks, battery hardware parts, copper caps and precision fasteners are also manufactured. Our products are for automotive retainer clips, motor rotors, housing for DC motors, end cover for DC motors, silicon steel sheets, transformer cores, and micro-stamped deep-drawn housings. Precision metal brackets and custom micro components are also manufactured.

We supply 13 major high-end industries: new energy vehicles and automotive electronic control systems, 3C consumer electronics and wearables, lithium-ion batteries and energy storage power supplies, home appliance manufacturing, industrial controls, low-voltage switches and relays, precision medical equipment, rail transportation systems, micro and electric motor manufacturing, RF communication equipment, UAV and aerospace components, testing instruments and sensors, and photovoltaic inverters and new energy facilities.

We provide non-standard stamped parts according to customers’ requirements, such as ultra-thin micro parts, high-precision parts, complicated special-shaped parts, etc.

What are the acceptable tolerances of your precision stamping? What is your smallest possible processing dimension?

We can reliably manufacture standard precision stamped components within tolerances of ±0.01 mm to ±0.03 mm. Tolerances of up to ±0.005 mm can be consistently achieved with our ultra-high precision products. Our minimum material thickness for working is 0.05mm. We can produce holes with the smallest diameter of 0.1 mm reliably. The minimum bending edge is 0.3 mm without quality loss.

Geometric tolerances such as flatness, perpendicularity and parallelism are precisely controlled to comply with your drawing requirements. All these capabilities fully meet assembly and fitting requirements for high-end precision components. Our process guarantees reliability in the consistent results of entire production batches.

What is the difference between precision stamping and traditional stamping? Why should I use precision stamping for parts?

Precision stamping can be done to the precision of ±0.01 mm; conventional stamping can only be done to the precision of ±0.1 mm. Precision stamping creates burr-free edges with virtually no deformation during the stamping process. These high-quality standards are not reliably achieved by conventional stamping.

High-precision wire-cut dies and insert-type dies are used to achieve better accuracy in precision stamping. These special dies have a much longer useful life than conventional tooling. In the conventional stamping process, common dies are used, and their accuracy potential is limited.

In our process, precision levelling, deburring and flattening are all performed on high-speed stamping presses. These techniques allow for great consistency of parts throughout full production runs. This repeatability is not reliable with standard stamping.

When micro components and precision assemblies require high precision, precision stamping is required. This type of precision is required for automated assembly parts and high-end equipment components. There is no way to meet strict tolerances and mass consistency requirements with standard stamping.

What kind of stamping processes do you offer? Are you able to do deep drawing, bending, flanging and tapping?

We provide a full range of integrated precision stamping services to meet your needs. We are able to flat stamp, precision bend, deep draw, shallow draw and flange. Hole extruding, tapping, press riveting, curling, chamfering, precision flattening and deburring are also done. Blank forming and single-operation forming by high-speed progressive die.

Secondary machining errors can be reduced, and complex-shaped parts can be formed in one multi-operation. This integrated approach saves time in production and greatly enhances dimensional accuracy. Every step of the process is optimised in order to meet your specific component needs.

What is your stamping equipment? What is your production capacity?

Our workshop is equipped with high-speed precision stamping presses with advanced technology. Our pneumatic presses, vertical and horizontal drawing machines and precision levellers are of high accuracy. Automatic feeders and optical inspection equipment guarantee uniformity in production. Other automated equipment is used to assist in our manufacturing processes.

Production by high-speed progressive die is capable of producing tens of thousands of pieces per day. The standard precision stamped parts precision stamping output is 10,000-50,000 pieces per day. Orders of mass-volume are continuously executed for 24 hours and provide stable support. We are able to handle small-batch prototyping projects as well as large-scale mass production projects well.

What are the precision stamping materials? Are there materials that you can suggest according to my needs?

We can process almost all the common precision hardware materials for various applications. We can produce stainless steel of the following grades: SUS304, SUS301, SUS316 and SUS430. The copper alloys we work with include Brass, Phosphor Bronze, Pure Copper and BeCu. Cold-rolled steel (SPCC) and galvanised steel sheets (SECC/SGCC) are routinely processed. We deal in Aluminium Sheets, Aluminium Alloys, Nickel Strips, Nickel Plated Steel Strips and Spring Steel.

Our engineers provide no cost recommendations for optimal materials for your functional needs. We take into account such properties as conductivity, heat dissipation, elasticity, anti-corrosion, wear resistance, and resistance to high temperatures. Upon request, material certificates and RoHS test reports are provided. Material authenticity and conformance to international standards are guaranteed at all times.

Are ultra-thin sheets stampable? What is the thinnest that you can process?

Yes, we’re a specialist in ultra-thin precision sheet stamping for challenging applications. Our minimum working thickness is 0.05mm and is consistently of good quality. Sheets of 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm are produced regularly.

Thin material processing poses challenges such as deformation, warpage, and dimensional deviation. These problems are addressed by optimised die clearance and secondary flattening processes. Custom fixture setting and low-speed precision stamping strictly control flatness and distortion. All ultra-thin component batches are consistently and reliably produced in stable mass production.

For spring clips and terminals to be made with materials that have high elasticity and wear resistance, which materials are best?

The material is preferably phosphor bronze, beryllium copper and SUS301 spring stainless steel. They offer high elasticity, wear resistance and outstanding conductive properties. When it is important to have better rust-proof and corrosion-resistant performance, SUS304 is recommended. High-quality spring steel is used for the manufacture of cost-effective general-purpose springs with reliability.

Optimisation of die structure and stamping processes is performed especially for elastic components. This improvement extends the life of spring-back and enhances fatigue resistance in a significant manner. Optimisation is tailored to your specific fatigue-test requirements and test specifications. Special treatment is provided to your components for long-term performance.

Are you able to make precision stamped parts of non-standard designs? Can manufacturing be done without drawings?

We can offer 100% custom work for non-standard parts to your needs. All precision stamped components can be made to your drawing or specification. Physical samples, dimension data and application conditions can be provided as alternatives.

Our engineers can provide free reverse-engineering if you don’t have any drawings. We offer free optimisation of the structure based on your physical sample. Mold fabrication is only started after the approval of CAD and DFM drawings. One-to-one technical support is available throughout your project.

What is the time required for making mold? How do you work out the cost of tooling? Who owns the mold?

Standard single-operation precision dies can be completed in about 25 working days. High-speed progressive dies take about 28 working days to manufacture. The complete fabrication of complex deep drawing molds will take around 45 days.

Tooling costs can vary based on part complexity, tolerances, and die-steel grades. SKD11, DC53 and carbide inserts are used as per your requirements. We are still competitive in our pricing, and there is no hidden fee at all.

Once you pay the tooling fee, you have full mold intellectual property rights. Free mold storage, maintenance and service support for life. There are no repeat orders ever that require any additional tooling payments.

How long are your stamping dies good for? What do they do with broken molds?

One million shots of service life is the minimum standard precision die can be expected to deliver consistently. High precision progressive dies can shoot up to 10 million shots before they need to be replaced. Periodic maintenance, cleaning and repair procedures are regularly performed on all production-run moulds.

Comprehensive dimensional inspection of each mold is carried out prior to production. Normal wear and minor damage during mass production is repaired free of charge. All repair costs are covered, so you can expect punctual deliveries. This guarantee means you can rely on your production timetables without any problems related to tools.

Are prototypes available before mass manufacturing? Is prototyping chargeable?

Prototyping can be used for all products before mass production. Only after prototype samples have been approved is mass production started. In this way, risks in aspects of dimensions, structure and overall appearance are minimised.

Simple prototypes are supplied free of charge to our customers. Courier costs related to prototype sample shipment arrangements are borne by you. For complex, high-precision and multi-stage deep-drawn parts, there will be a small prototyping fee. This fee is 100% refundable when your mass production order is ready. All prototype quality and specification is guaranteed all the time.

How is your quality control process? How to maintain uniformity in large-scale production?

We have a complete quality control system during all manufacturing processes. The verification of incoming material is done based on material certificates. Surface condition and thickness are studied in detail prior to production. Non-conforming stock is promptly turned away from our production process.

First article approval – checks all samples from a production run (full dimensional inspection). Only after approval of the initial sample, mass production begins. Every 2 hours, the in-process patrol samples dimensions, appearance and flatness. Final inspection is done before shipment with respect to appearance, burrs and dimensional tolerances.

Defective parts are 100% screened out before packaging for delivery. Pre-delivery re-inspection double-checks all the parameters before the final shipment process. This results in ZERO Batch Deviation and stable product consistency reliably. Several checkpoints ensure that every stamped part delivered is as per your requirements.

Do you have inspection reports, dimensional reports and material certificates?

We offer outgoing dimensional inspection reports for quality free of charge. All raw-material specifications and quality standards are certified by material test certificates. 100% environmental safety and regulatory compliance is verified by RoHS compliance reports. Salt spray test reports can be provided on request.

Flatness inspection report and First inspection report, we provide them regularly. Gold, Silver, Palladium, Nickel and Tin Plating test reports are available. All documentation is genuine and is valid for your supplier audits. We have comprehensive documentation packages to support third-party inspections.

Do stamped parts suffer from burrs, sharp edges or deformation?

It is effective in preventing burrs by the use of high-precision dies and optimised cutting-edge clearance. Precision stamped products have any burrs removed by automatic deburring processes. Burr-free, smooth edges for standard-range parts.

Additional manual finishing processes are carried out for ultra-thin and ultra-precision parts. These components are treated with vibratory deburring and flattening operations. Throughout the process, we have strict control of warpage, distortion and flash. This guarantees that all parts are fully compliant with automated assembly requirements, reliably.

Is it possible to finish the surface of stamped parts? What can be done for treatment?

We provide a full post-treatment service for plating operations, one-stop service. There are several options, including nickel, zinc, gold, silver and tin plating. Anodising, sandblasting, wire brushing, polishing and passivation services are available. Rust-proof treatment, conductive coating and high-temperature resistant coating are available.

We recommend appropriate processes according to your corrosion resistance requirements. Our recommendations are based on conductivity, aesthetics, and environmental compliance. All surface treatment operations do not affect dimensional tolerances. Mechanical performance is retained throughout the entire finishing process.

What is your normal order lead-time? Are there any rush orders that can be prioritised?

Prototype lead time is 5 to 7 working days. The normal time for standard mass production orders is 14-20 working days. 22-25 working days for making a complex multi-stage high precision deep drawn product.

Priority allocation for all die-making operations is given to rush orders. Time-sensitive projects have their production and inspection processes expedited. To meet your project schedule, we reduce lead times by a considerable amount. Priority Scheduling means that your urgent orders are always taken care of first.

On what basis are quotations prepared? Why is it that prices differ so much between manufacturers?

Our quotations are based on the part dimensions and tolerances requested. Prices are sensitive to raw-material quality, complexity of the process and the volume of production. Quotations include post-treatment operations and inspection standards. Wide price variations are due to the variation in the die-making precision levels.

The quality of equipment, quality-control standards, and raw-material qualities differ between manufacturers. Only the best raw materials and precision tooling technology are used. Full-process quality management does not allow cutting costs by utilising lower-quality materials or processes. We provide reliable quality, the lowest cost-effectiveness and reduced after-sales risks. We will continue our long-term cooperation with all our customers.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)? Are small batch orders accepted?

There are no specific minimum order quantity requirements for customers. Small Batch Trial Orders and medium volume Pilot Production Runs are welcome. Large-scale mass production is fully supported by our manufacturing capacity. Small orders of several hundred or a thousand pieces are accepted without hesitation.

There is specific support for the new product R&D and iteration stages. We deliver high-volume orders, hundreds of thousands or millions. All production stages, from development to full-scale production, are included. No matter your order size, we’re here to help you.

How do you ensure quality of the sheet metal parts?
